A little story

I went to Indy's school rally yesterday. It was a Sunday English Service in the church. And they had the blessing for all the students for the New School Year.
During the service they had a short session about the school and there was a testimonial from a student.

His story really touched my heart. The simple version is like this:
He is about 15 years old boy , came from a non Christian family. He was raised in West Malaysia by his grandparents , however he was a quiet and not a good student at school. So the parents had decided to bring him back to Sabah and put him to a public school . But nothing change, he was still not a good learner and still couldn't get along with the friends and hard to keep up with the school. And he told in front of everybody that he was thinking to kill himself. ( I was nearly in tears when I heard this) Finally his dad found his current school ( which is my dd's school ) and he said that he loves the school, the friends , the teacher and his grade is keep improving. And I think the most important is now he feels better about himself. He feels that people can accept him here and it gave him more confidence .He is a Christian now and he said a big thank you for the school ,for it has changed his life.

His story made me realize more about people judgement around our kids, not too mention the preasure on their shoulder, the stress they must cope with. And I think it is very important to teach our kids about emphathy toward each other, being sensitive to other people's feeling , about how to make friends by being a friend. How to teach them to listen to other rather than seeking for more attentions, or how to teach them to not to make others feel bad just because it makes them feel good about themself.

Because without knowing it, we COULD save other's people life....

2nd Bento

Just to share the other simple bento for today. I got this Barbie box from Christine .
The contents for today are :
Cut granny smith apples, corn kernels, crab sticks, and rice with salmon furikake in bear shape ( can't really see in the photo) I didn't put any eyes or nose on it, :) . And I put mayonnaise on the Hello Kitty sauce container.

Indy only got 20 minutes during recess. I don't know if she can finish all of this in 20 minutes :).
She told me she prefers I pack the bento, so she doesn't have to queue to buy food in the canteen.

Anyway.. it was raining the hard here yesterday. Many areas in KK are flooded. Luckily this morning it was dry in our neighborhood. How is it in your place?

Have a safe and nice week ahead!

She is brave

Yes Indy is brave. Since I can't find a school bus that want to bring her to school , so I need to arrange other transportation for her.

First I arrange taxi to pick her, for the first 2 days I went to school with her.But on the 3rd day I just sent her to the taxi and then she go with the taxi driver alone to her school.
Of course I didn't just call a random taxi to bring her. The driver is some one I can trust.
Anyway, it is a big step for her to go to primary school and take a taxi ride alone :)
Also to pick her up, the taxi driver pick her from school and bring her home. I wait for her at home.
And she is ok with it. Isn't she brave? She can deal with the new school, new friends, new environment pretty well. And to ride on a taxi alone is a pretty big deal for a 6 years old :)

Thank God , now we have other alternative, since taxi fees are high here. Now Indy is going to school with a lady in our neighborhood, she pass the school every morning and she lives near us. So she can bring her to school. And the good news is she 's also a sunday school teacher at the Indy's school church. Isn't it great?
So Indy follow this kind lady to school. And she is ok with that too. She understand that mama doesnt have her driving license yet .

Indy first bento for her primary school day

Friday is the busy day for Indy, she got P.E at 7.30 then got a small break, she must change clothes and shoes and have a quick breakfast.
The school will end at 1 pm instead of 12.15 like any other days.
She will have recess for 20 mins at 10 a.m while the bigger kids will have recess on 10.20. Which I think is good thing to do. Otherwise it will be too crowded and the big kids can "squeeze" out the young kids. :)

So I thought today she should eat more proper during her recess , since the school will end at 1.

So here what I made for her. Super simple bento hahah...She wants fried egg, cheese sausage and I put a couple of grapes.

I did this is a few mins only as you can tell from the way the sausage been cut hehee..
need to cut more nice next time

This is her in the school canteen, which is very clean and tidy and the ladies behind the counter are very kind and helpful to the new and young students. And there are a few teachers and supervisors there as well to make sure that the new students get the food , and pay the right amount :)

Indy on the second day of school , did manage to bought her own food but instead of sausage and fried egg, she only got sausage as the lady didn't hear her that she also wanted the egg :).
On the second day, she forgot to bring down her wallet, so the teacher ended up paying for her food :)

So today, to save her time on queuing and paying, to bring her own bento is a good idea.
I should pack her bento everyday. Anyway I got plenty of the tools and boxes already ! :-D

now I m going to spy on other bento's mom blogs to search for some idea , what should I pack and prepare.

TA DA for now....

Back to school for my girls!

So like every body else, Indy and Maya went back to school yesterday. For Maya it is the same school, nothing change except the new teacher and new classmate.

As for big sis Indy she goes to new school now as she is in Primary 1. She put on her new uniform ( which the skirt was too small due to the tailor mistake!! ) , tied her hair, put on new socks, new shoes, bring her new ruler , new pencils But that's about it that is new . She use her old backpack, old pencil case . And she doesn't mind at all :).

She is excited to meet new friends at school, new teachers too. One of my friend's daughter is there, so there is a bonus for her at least she knows some one. And even though the friend is older, they ended up in the same learning center ( classroom ) so it is a mix of almost 6, 6 , and 7 years old students. Which I think it is good. And there are only 17 students in her class with 3 teachers.

So she got her "cubicle" , office as they called it. And her own locker, her own key, her own library card and a name tag and oh her very own bible.

And the best part is she learn her first verse from the bible yesterday and she can memorized it pretty well....

My son, do not forget my teaching and keep my commands in your heart, for they will prolong your life many years and bring you prosperity....
(Proverbs 3)

And for second day at school she said she read 2 and a half books. She choose the books herself and read it. I always thought that she is not that good yet at reading, but actually she 's doing ok. Not the best reader for her age, but she is progressing . And when she can't read the words , she will ask the teachers or the supervisors as they called it to help. So they don't force her what to read but she can read what she likes. Today she choose a book about hamster, reindeer and one more that I couldn't remember. She said she wants to read about the dolphin but her friend took it already , I said dont worry, still got plenty of time.

And she is also so excited to use her library card. She wants borrow more books and read it at home with me . I do appreciate the strong encouragement from the school to develop the children interest to read .

This school also have a strict discipline though that they students cant talk during the study time. This is a bit hard for Indy as she is a chatter box by nature. But I told her, you must concentrate when you read or learn and when you do your work. You can talk during the recess.
She said : but I m eating during recess! :)
She is also learning how to buy food from the canteen , I haven't pack her bento yet as she doesn't eat much and will be home by noon to eat her lunch.

Well that not even one week yet for her in that school, but at least I see some good sign for now.
Hopefully she will be happy there and learn and also developing her good characters.

And I believe the key to a great learner is to keep her to LOVE TO LEARN. As a true learning MUST start with interest....

don't you agree?

Take care people...
