Back to school for my girls!

So like every body else, Indy and Maya went back to school yesterday. For Maya it is the same school, nothing change except the new teacher and new classmate.

As for big sis Indy she goes to new school now as she is in Primary 1. She put on her new uniform ( which the skirt was too small due to the tailor mistake!! ) , tied her hair, put on new socks, new shoes, bring her new ruler , new pencils But that's about it that is new . She use her old backpack, old pencil case . And she doesn't mind at all :).

She is excited to meet new friends at school, new teachers too. One of my friend's daughter is there, so there is a bonus for her at least she knows some one. And even though the friend is older, they ended up in the same learning center ( classroom ) so it is a mix of almost 6, 6 , and 7 years old students. Which I think it is good. And there are only 17 students in her class with 3 teachers.

So she got her "cubicle" , office as they called it. And her own locker, her own key, her own library card and a name tag and oh her very own bible.

And the best part is she learn her first verse from the bible yesterday and she can memorized it pretty well....

My son, do not forget my teaching and keep my commands in your heart, for they will prolong your life many years and bring you prosperity....
(Proverbs 3)

And for second day at school she said she read 2 and a half books. She choose the books herself and read it. I always thought that she is not that good yet at reading, but actually she 's doing ok. Not the best reader for her age, but she is progressing . And when she can't read the words , she will ask the teachers or the supervisors as they called it to help. So they don't force her what to read but she can read what she likes. Today she choose a book about hamster, reindeer and one more that I couldn't remember. She said she wants to read about the dolphin but her friend took it already , I said dont worry, still got plenty of time.

And she is also so excited to use her library card. She wants borrow more books and read it at home with me . I do appreciate the strong encouragement from the school to develop the children interest to read .

This school also have a strict discipline though that they students cant talk during the study time. This is a bit hard for Indy as she is a chatter box by nature. But I told her, you must concentrate when you read or learn and when you do your work. You can talk during the recess.
She said : but I m eating during recess! :)
She is also learning how to buy food from the canteen , I haven't pack her bento yet as she doesn't eat much and will be home by noon to eat her lunch.

Well that not even one week yet for her in that school, but at least I see some good sign for now.
Hopefully she will be happy there and learn and also developing her good characters.

And I believe the key to a great learner is to keep her to LOVE TO LEARN. As a true learning MUST start with interest....

don't you agree?

Take care people...

Indy looks cute in that uniform.. Hehe.. Ya, from what I heard from you, I can imagine that this school is really good. Well, at least the kids there wont have burden like what the other kids(local school) have. School nowadays more focus on study and result but they forget about the importance of humanity and moral..

If only this school accept muslim, I will send wawa there when he grow up..

Irene: yeah those in kindy will have a hard work this week:) Even Maya cries when I sent her to the day care. Too much comfort the last 6 weeks and stick to me only :)

Cel: yes I also told that to Indy. But some of the young kids kind of put that mind set on her. Like if her friend keep saying to her : " I got it first, you are second, I am the winner" or " I can do that better than you" or " Wha, like that also you don't know ? or can't do?"

Sometimes i can see from her face that she is sad if someone talked like that to her. Sometimes she complaint to me , but some other times she just keep quiet and I pretend not to see. I want to observe how she is handling it.
Normally before bed time, me and her will talk,. and I can ask her something like :
do you feel bad when your friend can do better that you?
She said : ya
but I told her the most important is she already try her best. That's what really matter.

oh boy, much more harder to raise a kid nowadays compares to our parents generation right?

Bonnie: thanks ya, I thought she looks cute too!
I think most of the school will focus on the study and result and the school reputation to "produce" more A students and yes some times it might neglect the other important stuffs like how to develop a good characters.

Yes this is a Church School. I got a Buddhist friend that send her daughter there. As long as the parents dont mind that the kid will receive Christian education and memorize verse on the bible , learn Christian prayer .

Maybe you can find a good muslim school around?
