So...we are back to biz after 9 days break in Bali. After managing my emails and a few orders received while I'm away finally I try to sit and try to "write" this blog.
We went to Bali from 7th of May till 16th of May 2007. We stayed in Vila Puri Ayu a nice quite place in Sanur area. We rent the mini apartment with one bed room, kitchen, big private garden and open air bathroom. The price is very reasonable, the got internet, laundry, 2 swimming pool and breakfast included.
I must said we managed to enjoy this holiday, despite we bring 2 children under 5 :).
We went to most of place interest in Bali, go shopping, spend 2 days in waterbom Bali. And My dh manage to get to do massage and I managed to get spa done on mother's day.
Traveling with young kids is not impossible to do. It will need preparation and a LOT of patience and EXTRA LOTS of sense of humor when everything seems to be failed. :).
I'm not an expert in traveling with kids, but read lots of reference about that (some are lonely planet traveling with kids, and baby center.com )
Week before I traveled normally I will print out the list that I need to bring. This I usually divide it into 2 groups . One is hand carry with me other is in the luggage
What I bring normally :
Hand carry :
Depends on the journey , if I go short flight trip or long with transit. but this is what I bring
1. bottle of water for both of us (3 in my case, me, indy and maya) but since Indy is bigger she can help me carry her own bottle in her own backpack.
2. Some snack
3. Wet wipes lots of it
4. Diapers (if using disposable one during trip it will be much better, but i do keep 1-2 cloth diaper with me for extra) If you bring dispo, you should bring it extra 2-3 pcs than what you think you will need.
5. Changing cloth for you baby and you also if you like ( It will not be nice if you must travel with milk spot on your shirt )
6. Changing pad
7.light blanket or light jacket ( in this case I use my sling pouch as blanket as well), extra sock
8.favorite soft toys, and new toy (to distract in emergency situation)
9. band aid (for Indy)
In the luggage
1. Medicine. this is on my top list. Specially fever medicine, diarrhea or cold
2. Towel
3. Clothing of course
4. Thermometer
5. Sun block
6. Mosquito repellent
7. and many other thing!
To share the trick on bringing baby/toddler in the plane :
I always armed my self with a "new" toy for them. What I did is : weeks before travel , I eat at Mc Donald , I took happy meal and keep the free toy aside. So I will have 2-3 new toys as my "weapon" .So when the" red code" emergency happen in the plane ( e.g: toddler screaming, doesn't want to put on seat belt , want to escape from the plane, or without any reason they kick and yell) hopefully when you "magically" take out the new toy, they will be "amaze" and hopefully that toy can keep them "quiet" . This is a good trick for toddler (or about 9mo-2 years old baby). Avoid: noisy toys, toys that contains a lot of smaller part (it will drive you crazy picking it up all the time)
Other trick for 2 years old and above is :STICKER and Play dooh. The stickers is nice, they will like to peel and stick to the sticker book. And with play dooh they can be busy too! Play dooh will make a mess in the plane , so be prepare to get a "look" from the flight attendant ! :D
PS: none of my tricks are guaranteed can work ALL TIME! :D
Oh remember the "new" sling i mention before? I used it and love it . The material is called 'solarveil" which give baby UV protection up to 75 % , it is very light, breathable and dry fast!(within 2 hours in the sun!) I dont have yet the picture here with me! I will upload it when I have it. And I bring Maya to swim in this sling ! :D
Indy is such a brave girl, She play the adult slide (min height is 1 meter, she is 1 meter now:D)
She even go to big slide with out tube and go on her own (not together with papa , since the papa must slide first then catch her when she hit the water! )
