I went to Indy's school rally yesterday. It was a Sunday English Service in the church. And they had the blessing for all the students for the New School Year.
During the service they had a short session about the school and there was a testimonial from a student.
His story really touched my heart. The simple version is like this:
He is about 15 years old boy , came from a non Christian family. He was raised in West Malaysia by his grandparents , however he was a quiet and not a good student at school. So the parents had decided to bring him back to Sabah and put him to a public school . But nothing change, he was still not a good learner and still couldn't get along with the friends and hard to keep up with the school. And he told in front of everybody that he was thinking to kill himself. ( I was nearly in tears when I heard this) Finally his dad found his current school ( which is my dd's school ) and he said that he loves the school, the friends , the teacher and his grade is keep improving. And I think the most important is now he feels better about himself. He feels that people can accept him here and it gave him more confidence .He is a Christian now and he said a big thank you for the school ,for it has changed his life.
His story made me realize more about people judgement around our kids, not too mention the preasure on their shoulder, the stress they must cope with. And I think it is very important to teach our kids about emphathy toward each other, being sensitive to other people's feeling , about how to make friends by being a friend. How to teach them to listen to other rather than seeking for more attentions, or how to teach them to not to make others feel bad just because it makes them feel good about themself.
Because without knowing it, we COULD save other's people life....

I totally agree with your thoughts Sandra. Having our own state of mind will NOT help if the feeling of acceptance is void from the society that one is living in.
The sense of belonging and accepted is by far more important than just looking at good grades. And the culture and upbringing methods of a school is very important in grooming a child as he/she grows into the society.
Thank God that you've made the right choice by placing Indy there. That's a blessing :)
Hi Sandra,
Just updated your blog on Indy, she is such a brave girl.. taking a taxi alone is very rare in KK, due to the trust and cost of taxi is high here, i was surprise that u found a taxi instead of school bus, however, a car pool on some one u trust would be a great idea for Indy, she will enjoy meeting ppl on her own...
I just got back from Bangkok, tiry and cold... see u when i m back.
ciao.
mabel yes it is a blessing :)
Melissa
yes we dont have much choice lor here.
no relatives also to bring her to school. We tried to find a school bus but looks like no one is willing to take her from here to her school.
We even stopped a school bus on the road and ask the driver ( nikolay did hehe) but no luck also
She still takes bus to come back from school.
And yes the cost is high..
